Education Grants

There are three main types of education grants you can qualify for – federal, state and private. Federal grant money tends to be the most popular as it can all be accessed in one general location and accepted at most universities. The application form is called the FAFSA (Federal Application for Student Aid) and is easily accessible through the government website.

Here are the available Federal Grants you can qualify for:

Federal Pell Grant – The Federal Pell Grant awards up to $5,550 per year

TEACH Grant (Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant) – Awards up to $4,000 per year to those who are interested in become teachers.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) – $4,000 per year awarded; similar qualifications to Pell Grant.

The Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) – $750 for freshmen and $1,300 awarded to sophomores. This grant may be combined with the Pell Grant.

SMART Grant – (The National Science & Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant) – This grant comes after the Academic Competitiveness Grant and awards $4,000 to both Juniors and Seniors each year.

Institutional Grants – Vary among colleges and are merit based. Almost the same as scholarships.

Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant – Began on July 1, 2010, this grant is for students who do not qualify for a Pell Grant but their parents were members of the United States Armed Forces during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

State Education Grants

Each state has their own state education grant programs you can read about here. These usually include minority grants, grants for women, low income student grants, and grants for students pursuing fields that are in high demand such as teaching and nursing.

Private Education Grants

Private education grants are the most difficult to find because there are not many all-in-one places to look to get a good list of private grants. We put together a private grant list here.
